English PhraseCamp Podcast Ep #1: Bears, Eagles & Music Stories (A1-A2)

Welcome to the very first episode of the English PhraseCamp Podcast! 🎧

In this series, we provide slow, clear English conversations to help A1 and A2 (Beginner) students improve their listening skills.

In Episode 1, your hosts Emma and Tom discuss three funny and heartwarming news stories from around the world.

These stories remind us that happiness can be found everywhere—whether you are a bear, an eagle, or a music fan!

📝 Key Learning Points

Before you read the transcript, look out for these themes and vocabulary words:

  • Similes: Tom compares the bears to “kids in a candy store.” This means they were very excited and uncontrolled.
  • “Bear Detectives”: Tom calls the bears “detectives” because they were smart enough to find exactly where the honey was hidden.
  • Adjectives for Emotion: Look for words like brave, scared, happy, and proud.
  • The Moral: The hosts discuss how family and passion are important at any age.

🎧 Podcast Transcript: Episode 1

Emma: Hi everyone, I’m Emma, and welcome to our English Phrase Camp’s podcast series.

This is our first podcast episode, so we’re so excited to be doing these podcast series.

Today’s podcast will be for A1-A2 beginner level ESL students.

Tom: And hi, I’m Tom. Emma, I’m so glad to be here.

And I have to tell you, when I read these three stories this week, I couldn’t stop smiling.

Emma: Really? Which one was your favorite?

Tom: Oh, definitely the hungry bears. Emma, can you imagine?

Two bears eating honey? Like… like kids in a candy store?

Emma: I know, right? Fifteen jars of honey! That’s more honey than I eat in a whole year.

Tom: And they just fell asleep there. Like, “Okay, we’re done. Time for a nap.”

Emma: My dog does the same thing. He eats too much and then just [sound effect] falls asleep right there.

Tom: Animals are so funny. But you know what? I think those bears are actually really smart.

Emma: Smart? How?

Tom: Well, think about it. They knew exactly where the food was.

They didn’t just run around randomly. They had a plan.

Emma: Oh wow, you’re right. They’re like… bear detectives.

Tom: But Emma, the eagle story made me a little sad. And happy at the same time.

Emma: Oh, me too. When Sunny flew away, I was like, “No! Don’t leave your sister!”

Tom: I know. I have a sister, and I would miss her so much if she went away for two days.

Emma: But then she came back. That was so beautiful. It shows that family is the most important thing.

Tom: You know what I love about this story?

Sunny was brave enough to try something new, but she was also smart enough to come home.

Emma: Yes! It’s like… you can have adventures, but you don’t have to choose between adventure and family.

Tom: That’s actually really good advice for people, too. Not just animals.

Emma: Exactly! Like, when I moved to another city to study English.

I was scared, but I knew my family was always there for me.

Tom: Now, the music story. Emma, this one made me cry happy tears.

Emma: Oh my goodness. Yes. 81 years old and still going to concerts!

Tom: Twenty-five years. That’s longer than I’ve been alive.

Emma: [Laughs] Tom, how old are you?

Tom: Shamelessly, 22. But still! Twenty-five years is a long time to love something.

Emma: I think it’s so sweet. She never stopped loving music.

Age really doesn’t matter when you love something.

Tom: You know what? My grandmother is 75, and she just started learning to use a smartphone.

She says it’s never too late to learn new things.

Emma: That’s amazing! And you know what?

This woman probably inspired so many other older people to follow their dreams.

Tom: Yes! And Shania Twain was so nice to bring her on stage. That was really special.

Emma: I bet she’s going to remember that moment for the rest of her life.

Tom, what do you think about all these stories together?

Tom: Hmm… They all show that… being happy doesn’t have rules?

Emma: What do you mean?

Tom: Well, the bears were happy eating honey. The eagles were happy being together.

The woman was happy listening to music. Everyone finds happiness in different ways.

Emma: That’s really wise, Tom. And also, all these stories show that love is everywhere. Even with animals.

Tom: Right. The bears loved food. The eagles loved each other.

And the woman loved music. Love makes everyone happy.

Emma: These stories remind me that the world is full of beautiful, funny, and amazing things happening every day.

Tom: And they’re all true stories! That makes them even more special.

Emma: Thanks for listening to English Phrase Camp’s podcast episode one. What story did you like the most?

Tom: Tell us in the comments! And remember: Keep learning English, keep being curious about the world. Bye everyone!

Emma: Bye!
